FCEMF – The Darkest Day in American Christian History

I am sure you are as heart-broken over today’s Supreme Court decision as I am. Gay rights activists have already gone public with the declaration that they are coming after churches (source: Janet Parshall, Moody Radio).

The link below is to a reputable blog that talks about a booklet called Protecting Your Ministry from Sexual Orientation Gender Identity Lawsuits. It is jointly put out by the Alliance Defending Freedom and The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. The blog author describes the actions his church took to protect it based upon the booklet.

I strongly encourage you read this booklet if nothing else but to ensure that you and your flock are in a healthy position. Postponing personnel decisions and facility usage requests and such until the appropriate documents are in place are probably also good ideas.

I also ask you to pass this link along to as many pastors and Christian school administrators as you can think of.

FCEMF – Update On Stronger Together Community Conversation

For those who couldn’t make it to our FCEMF meeting yesterday here’s the latest update on our Stronger Together Fox Valley community conversations. This is the pilot initiative that we were invited to participate in a few months back.

So far a handful of us have checked it out. At the meetings we’re talking with leaders from the city governments, education, social services, law enforcement, mainline denominations and the business community along with the group facilitators. The June 23 meeting is the start of stage two of the initiative, where we figure out what we will work on together. So far Becky, Paul and I have sensed a real desire among the group to have evangelical leaders at the table to help set the agenda. We’ve had some good conversations already!

Before the June 23 meeting, one of the directors, Tom Mosgaller, would like to have a special meeting with those of us in evangelical community who want to know more. He wants to know who would be interested so he can try to find a day/time that would work for the majority of us. A group of us indicated interest at our FCEMF meeting yesterday. If you would like to be included, please let Becky know by replying to this email.

Praying for opportunities to share Christ in the public square,

Subject: Invitation to next Stronger Together Community Conversation

Greetings Community Conversation Participants!

Those of us who gathered on May 7th heard some powerful stories that came out of the one-on-one conversations with Fox Valley neighbors we enjoyed over the preceding weeks! Our horizons and perspectives were broadened as we shared and listened together.

A series of provocative themes emerged as these stories were heard and discussed. At our next group gathering on June 23 from 6:30-8, we will determine together which themes to explore further for possible united action. Please see the attached invitation for details.

Please pass along this invitation to anyone you feel would like to be a part of this process- they are welcome! Also, continue to be aware of others within and outside your natural realm of influence with whom you could enjoy further one-on-one conversations- to broaden our base of engagement and increase our growing understanding of our community as a whole.

We so value your participation, and encourage you to be part of this process of discerning together what areas of joint action to tackle!

Thank you, once again, for joining us in this effort. Without you and your input, we all will be lessened.
